The key is to build measurement into the work people are already doing, rather than adding a separate layer of reporting on top. This means choosing a small number of meaningful indicators, collecting data through existing interactions with service users, and making sure the information is used to improve services, not just to meet funder requirements. When people can see that measurement leads to better service decisions, they are much more likely to engage with it.

A longer piece of work that includes designing and embedding changes might take three to six months.
